Senior Payroll Officer

Liverpool (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

£40,000–£45,000 per annum

Full-time, Permanent (35 hours per week)



A fantastic, mission-driven organisation with an international reach is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join its Liverpool-based team.

This is a key role delivering end-to-end UK payroll for a complex workforce of c.750 employees. You’ll ensure accuracy, compliance and governance across monthly payroll, while supporting salary benchmarking, pay analysis and broader reward processes.



Key Responsibilities

  • Full end-to-end processing of monthly UK payroll
  • Application of complex pay structures
  • International payroll
  • Management of secondary/contingent payrolls
  • Supporting salary benchmarking and pay analysis
  • Ensuring compliance with HMRC, pensions and statutory requirements
  • Producing payroll reports and reconciliations (advanced Excel)
  • Supporting audits, year-end activity and continuous improvement
  • Liaising with HR, Finance and international payroll providers



About You

  • Proven experience in a senior payroll position
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation and pensions
  • Experience with large, high-volume payrolls
  • Advanced Excel capability (pivot tables, lookup functions, complex formulas)
  • CIPP qualified (or working towards)
  • Experience with iTrent and NHS pay structures highly desirable
  • International payroll experience would be an advantage
